94 Braves - Champions 16-0-1

94 Middlesex Braves Captured the 2008-2009 Massachusetts Select League Bantam Majors Tier 1 Title

The Bantam Major Tier 1 State Championship kicked off Friday Night November 7th at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro fighting for the Massachusetts State Championship and a trip to the Nationals in Dallas, Texas in April 2009.

The 94 Middlesex Braves finished the regular season in first place with a 12-0-1 record, with an impressive 100 goals for and 11 against. The Final Four, consisting of South Shore Dynamos, Valley Jr. Warriors and the North Shore Wings, were all hoping to capture the State Championship and to earn an invitation to the Nationals.

The Braves dominated the Friday night opener against the North Shore Wings with a 6-0 victory.

On Saturday, the Braves played the Valley Jr. Warriors in the first game of two. The Braves continued where they left off Friday night and walked by the Warriors 9-2.

Saturday evening's game was the first of two very anticipated games between the Braves and the Dynamos. Both teams had not lost a game, had not scored a goal against each other during the regular season and planned on going to the Nationals.  This game was to be a prelude to the Championship game and the next 24 hours would make or break the season for all involved.  The Braves jumped on the board first and never looked back. The Braves took the first game from the Dynamos 5-1 and walked away confident and ready for Sunday's Championship Battle.

The Championship game would be filled with energy and excitement. The Braves would scored first at 11:06 and it would be the only goal of the period. The Dynamos came out flying and jumped on the Braves with a quick goal to tie the game just a minute into the second period. The Dynamos did not stop there. They would score two more goals and with 8 minutes left in the second period and were up 3-1. The Braves were down but not out at 5:29. The Braves would pressure and score to come within 1. At 2:06 the Braves scored their 3rd goal to tie the game at 3. The tide had turned. The Braves had lapsed, but now had the momentum. The puck dropped and just 21 seconds later at 1:45, the Braves would rally again and take the lead 4-3.  The Braves would control the third period and top the Dynamos to end the season undefeated (16-0-1) and become Massachusetts State Champions and earn a trip to the National Championship in April.
